This course will provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to diagnose and repair faults on domestic and commercial Type A gas appliances.

Work associated with this unit is undertaken within the scope of AS/NZS 5601:2013 Part 1 Gas installations and local licensing requirements (gas, electrical and plumbing).

This unit is prescribed by the VBA as part of the eligibility requirements to obtain registration or licensing in the Victorian specialised class of plumbing: Type A appliance servicing work.

  • Be a registered/ licensed plumber, or
  • Hold a Certificate III in Plumbing

Plus,

  • Provide a letter of evidence on company letterhead confirming a minimum of twelve (12) months of employment in the industry within the past three (3) years, or
  • Provide evidence of completing your apprenticeship within the past six (6) months

Successful applicants will also be required to complete a Learning, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment

It is a Training Package requirement that the following two units must be completed prior to undertaking this unit:

  • CPCPCM2043 Carry out WHS requirements.
  • CPCPGS3053 Disconnect and reconnect Type A gas appliances.

Avante Education can assist you with obtaining these units, or where applicable provide a Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) and / or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process that will assist you in providing evidence that you have acquired the necessary skills to satisfy entry into the course.

The course is delivered over 50 hours of learning and assessment that includes:

  • 30 Hours of Self-paced activities
  • 20 Hours of Trainer led workshops including assessment time:
    • One – 4 Hour Online Trainer led theory session.
    • Two – 8 hours Face to Face Practical workshops

To gain competency in the unit, the students are required to do the following:

  • Complete a theory assessment
  • undertake a practical assessment to disassemble, reassemble, diagnose and remedy gas system faults on multiple Type A gas appliances
  • undertake a practical assessment to convert a Type A gas appliance to operate on another gas type.

Our course is an approved pathway to VBA registration, which is then subject to an external assessment.

The VBA will conduct an external assessment for those learners who wish to receive endorsement on their plumbing license in Type A gas appliance servicing. The Statement of attainment received upon successful completion of the course will enable the learners to proceed with the endorsement process for their Plumbing License through the VBA.

A payment of $173.40 is payable to the VBA for this assessment.

It is an accredited unit of competency in CPC40920 Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services and is, therefore, recognised by the VBA.
